Ecclesiastes 11:1-6: "Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be. He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good."
Sometimes, as a church, we are criticized for our methods in soul winning and in the large events we have in order to see people saved. Normally, the criticism comes in the form of what people call “easy believe-ism”, meaning that we make it too easy for people to get saved. We need to be reminded that salvation was not easy for Jesus Christ! It cost Him His life on the cross of Calvary. The Father gave His Son to be the Saviour of the world. Both the Father and the Son paid a very hard and painful price for our sins! The Father sacrificed His Son, His Son sacrificed His life! But for us to receive Christ as our Saviour, it really is a simple thing. A six-year-old can receive Christ as their Saviour the same as a sixty-yearold can.
Some say that it is not possible to win someone to Christ in 10 or 15 minutes, or they will doubt if the person really got saved. That is not for us to determine. It is between that person and God. Did they mean it when they prayed? Let me ask this question, did you? It is the conviction of the Holy Spirit that brings a person to salvation. How long does it take the Holy Spirit to convict? How does anyone know if someone else got saved? No one except that person and the Lord knows for sure! We baptize a person upon their profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. If someone say that they are saved, we believe them. They could be lying, they could be a faker. There are a lot of people who say that they are saved and are not. In fact, Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
The Bible tells us that it is our job to witness for Christ. Every Christian has that responsibility. It is the Holy Spirit that does the convicting, that is not our job! We cannot save anyone! We are to simply cast our bread upon the waters! There is a sea of humanity out there, millions of people, who need to hear God's plan of salvation, it is the bread of life. But, there is the worry of sowing to contend with. Ecclesiastes 11:4 tells us: "He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap." It is like a farmer who worries about the weather conditions and wants to wait until the weather is perfect before he will sow his seed. Chances are, he will never sow. It will be too dry, too wet, too windy, not enough wind, too hot, too cold, too early or too late! It is the same with witnessing, do not wait! We do not know the way of the Spirit! The Bible tells us to sow in the morning and in the evening and to withhold not thine hand. We do not know when the time is right. God said that His Word will not return void. Just sow God’s seed!!
